CameraHub captures geohazard events in Canada, helping keep transport networks safe

Recent monitoring projects in Canada have demonstrated the value of combining intelligent geotechnical monitoring with high-quality visual verification, with Senceive's CameraHub successfully capturing landslide and rockfall events that enabled rapid response to help keep rail and highways safe.

From a remote railway corridor to a rockfall-prone highway, CameraHub has provided infrastructure owners with reliable imagery day and night, enabling engineers to assess hazards quickly and make informed decisions.

Reliable monitoring for remote railway slopes

Last September at a remote railway slope, 20 wireless NanoMacro Triaxial Tilt Sensors were installed on metal stakes to monitor slope movement within a heavily wooded embankment. A solar-powered CameraHub was also deployed to continuously observe the railway below, providing visual confirmation should a washout or other hazard occur.

Last month, the system captured a fallen tree obstructing the railway during routine monitoring. The high-quality imagery allowed the issue to be identified quickly so it could be safely removed before it posed a risk to passing trains.

The event highlights the value of combining sensor data with reliable visual information. While wireless tilt sensors provide continuous measurements of ground movement, CameraHub delivers clear, actionable images that help operators understand exactly what is happening on site, even in challenging lighting conditions or remote locations.

Designed for long-term unattended operation, CameraHub's solar-powered design makes it ideal for monitoring isolated infrastructure where frequent site visits would be impractical or costly.

Capturing rockfall events before they become incidents

At another location in Canada, transportation authorities faced ongoing challenges from rockfalls and landslides affecting a busy roadway through mountainous terrain.

Rather than relying solely on costly physical mitigation measures such as extensive rockfall fencing or netting, the site has been equipped with Senceive's rockfall monitoring solution. Draw-wire sensors and Triaxial Tilt Sensors mounted to the existing rockfall barrier continuously monitor fence movement, while additional Triaxial Tilt sensors on stakes on the slope monitor for ground movement. CameraHub provides visual verification whenever an event is detected.

Earlier this summer, InfraGuard's intelligent event detection identified a landslide during the night, automatically waking the monitoring system and triggering CameraHub to capture a sequence of high-resolution images even in the darkness. The combined sensor data and imagery enabled operators to assess the event, close the road safely and implement mitigation measures before reopening the route.

The incident demonstrates how InfraGuard event detection monitoring ensures critical information is delivered immediately when conditions change. Instead of relying on scheduled inspections, engineers and operators receive sensor data and automated alerts alongside visual evidence exactly when it matters most.

Long term visual intelligence for remote infrastructure

Whether monitoring railways or highways at risk of landslides or rockfalls, having reliable visual information can make all the difference when assessing potential hazards.

CameraHub is designed specifically for these challenging environments, delivering high-resolution images day and night while operating autonomously for up to ten years, using solar power and a long-life battery system.

When paired with wireless monitoring systems, CameraHub provides visual confirmation of site conditions whenever an event occurs, helping asset owners and operators understand the situation quickly so they can respond safely and efficiently to unexpected events. By reducing the need for routine inspections while providing clear evidence when conditions change, CameraHub offers a practical, cost-effective solution for protecting critical transport infrastructure in even the most remote locations.
