Senceive is pleased to announce the addition of FLX-Rail® to its rail monitoring portfolio, further strengthening its ability to help rail infrastructure managers detect risk earlier and manage track assets more proactively.
FLX-Rail is a high-precision void meter designed to automatically and continuously measure vertical rail deformation during train passages. By capturing the maximum rail movement under load, the system provides critical insight into the presence of voids - gaps between sleepers and ballast that can lead to accelerated track degradation if left unaddressed.
The system also incorporates Sisgeo's SBV® (Start By Vibe) technology, which activates the sensor immediately before a train passes. This ensures accurate data capture while optimising power consumption for long-term, autonomous operation.
Addressing a Critical Track Risk
Voids are a common but often hidden issue within railway infrastructure. Formed by factors such as poor ballast compaction, drainage challenges, or repeated high-impact loading, voids leave sections of track unsupported. When trains pass over these areas, the load creates a hammering effect, increasing stress on rails and track components and contributing to geometry defects.
FLX-Rail enables early identification of these conditions by continuously monitoring rail behaviour. This allows infrastructure managers to detect developing issues sooner, prioritise maintenance more effectively, and reduce the risk of operational disruption or failure.
Simple, Non-Intrusive Deployment
Designed with ease of installation in mind, FLX-Rail is installed directly between the rail and the ballast using dual magnets for fast, non-intrusive deployment. No tools, drilling, or adhesives are required, making installation fast, simple, and non-intrusive.
Comprehensive Track Behaviour Monitoring
In addition to measuring vertical rail deformation, FLX-Rail can be equipped with a biaxial inclinometer to monitor rail tilt. This provides valuable data on track cant and twist, enhancing understanding of overall track geometry and performance.
Fully compatible with Senceive’s GeoWAN wireless communication platform, FLX-Rail enables automated data transmission and remote monitoring. This integration supports a scalable, real-time approach to track condition monitoring across entire rail networks.
